What is Whitehall Doing?
After graduating Whitehall High School in 1990, Bob Hartman went off to college and the world only to come back home five years later. Hartman became the social studies teacher, head wrestling coach and assistant football coach, and after seven years, moved up to become Whitehall Athletic Director in 2002. It’s been 20 years and Hartman has certainly proved himself to be a leader in Pennsylvania high school athletics.
While in the Athletic Director role at Whitehall, Hartman became the PIAA District XI Chairman and is the Vice President of the PIAA Board of Directors. Hartman says he’s very lucky to work with, and has met, talented and wonderful people throughout the years.
Field of Dreams
About five years ago, Hartman led the charge to renovate Whitehall’s football field into a field of dreams. First order of business: the 1970s scoreboard had to go. It’s a common problem most Pennsylvania high schools have — technology that’s not up to snuff. Hartman and other leaders at Whitehall decided the Zephyrs deserved the best, and after meeting with several scoreboard companies, decided on Digital Scoreboards.

After Digital Scoreboards installed the new football field video board at Whitehall High School, Hartman called them back to install a new scoreboard in the gym for the volleyball and basketball teams and a new scoreboard at the Zephyr Sports Complex. Hartman said he is incredibly happy with all three video boards.

Very few schools have even one video scoreboard like ours, and it puts us in a leadership role that we intend to maintain.”
