The old scoreboard at Quincy Notre Dame High School in Quincy, IL, sat at the fifty-yard line behind the opponent’s fan section and was becoming obsolete. In its last few years, staff were making trips to a local Christmas store for light bulbs just to keep the board lit. When it was time to make the update, Athletic Director Bill Connell knew he wanted something great.
"Why just have the score? Let's make this campus look like a college campus," said Connell.
Partnership Comes Before Purchase
Four scoreboards later, Quincy Notre Dame calls their decision to keep choosing Digital Scoreboards a “no-brainer.” For Connell, it was important that partnership came before purchase, and that’s exactly what he found.
“A lot of it is the partnership that we have with Chris Kirn and Digital Scoreboards. We believe in them, and we believe in the products that they put out there.”
But that’s not only due to the quality of the boards, flexible financing options, or trusted warranty. It’s because of the value that the high school sports scoreboards bring to school extending far beyond athletics.
“We use the board for movie nights. We use it for masses. We use it to show senior videos, and other things that may happen during the school year. We have student workers that run the boards,” said Connell.
Generating Revenue From Digital Scoreboards
Prior to making the switch to digital video scoreboards, Quincy Notre Dame was selling 10-12 static ads annually.
Since then, that number has jumped to 70 digital ads.
“If your high school is looking at using the advertising money for that board, it’s going to pay for itself within three or four years for sure,” said Connell. “If you’re aggressive going out and selling ads, it could pay for itself in just a couple years.”
